another masterpiece by arcadekitten! i've been following them for a really long time but only just got around to playing Blackout Hospital, and let me just say I was missing out all these years! This game is genuinely amazing and so well written, vasilis is such a cool MC and their friendship with mary is so precious. not to mention, there's an almost addictive quality to the game. i sat down thinking i would play for an hour or two and ended up playing for over 4 hours on most days haha. it's just so much fun!! i also love the talk feature with the characters in the party, and the combat system as well. it's simple but very reminiscent of old pokemon games, and there's just such a charm to it. the aesthetics of the game, the story, the characters.. they're all just so amazing. i also love how, for long-time fans, there are lots of nods to original games such as cemetary mary through mary and reginald's dynamic, and a deeper exploration of ryo's father from crowscare. i think it all ties the arcadekitten game universe together very well and makes the characters feel very real.  but ofc the star of the show is my beautiful, glorious, handsome, humble, amazing reginald tetra. i love this guy so much, i want to punt him across a football field. he ruins everything. he is so annoying (affectionate). arcadekitten could release a game where we just walk around as reggie and i would be happy. i think he's one of my favourite fictional characters of all time, so of course i would rate any content with him in it 5 stars. but don't let this discredit anything i've said in my review!! arcadekitten is a seriously talented and skilled game dev, and blackout hospital is one of many displays of their mastery <3
