This is such a special invention. Sometimes when I'm feeling kind of useless and adrift—usually late at night—I'll pop on and send some encouraging words to someone else. It's simultaneously low stakes (there's no real risk of hurting anyone, and I'm not being asked to exert the huge amount of emotional effort required to grow and maintain a relationship) and yet startlingly intimate.
