Excellent tool. From a glance, you'd think "oh, it just pixelates, why pay for that?" but no. This little thing is full of little artistic helpers. The perfect example are the different dithering modes. There's not just a simple "oh yeah dither this in a regular old pattern thx", but a handful of different dithering algorithms that are tuned out of the box to just look great. Same for the different pixelation options. It's just really really good at making stuff look visually pleasing.
But the secret product you get on top is Victoria's incredible tutorial series. They're already on YouTube for free, but to follow along you'll want to have Pixel8r installed. They're called "Pixel8r User Guide" so you may think it's just a guide for using the tool. But no: she shows you how her entire workflow works, with *a ton* of insights and tips for 3D pixel-art in general. Heck, it's just a great Substance Painter tutorial in general, as it shows you a real ton of functions you may not know about. Don't use it as your very first Substance Painter introduction though or you'll be overwhelmed haha.
Anyways: excellent tool, excellent results, excellent user guide. If there's ever a v3, I'll purchase that too in a heartbeat.
