capnwingding rated Withering World

A browser game made in HTML5.

the loredump at the beginning was a nice read.

i really like how the low-fidelity graphics make it really easy to miss parts of the level geometry, makes for good "i coulda sworn there were only 2 doorways but now there's a third" moments.

very evocative scenery. huge fan of the garbled sign that just barely communicates "changing rooms" with an arrow pointing to 2 bottomless pits, and the single chair only viewable from a crack where 2 corners meet.

i feel like this wasn't intended, but the lagginess of the game actually adds to the atmosphere, especially since it only really kicked in after i blacked out from running into a wall. no running in the pool, dear

very much disturbed by the random door opening noise followed by the head of some creature popping down into a bottomless pool when i turn the corner. 10/10 setpiece.

if i could take away a half a star i would, simply for the fact that i like my games to have a determinable end point. [only a half-star, because maybe there IS an end point, but i never found it bc it's only gotten well past the point of "can't find any more new stuff, i'm bored now".] oh well, 0.5 rounds up to 1 anyways
