A for effort. But sadly this game is grindy, unbalanced, unfair, and very frustrating. I didn't have any fun while playing it, I am mostly annoyed. The concept and ideas are nice, but the execution is just not fun. Currently played 0.9.0a.
Lots of things make me wonder what the dev was thinking. Does he want the game to be grindy/boring/frustrating? For example:
- Why have mana costs to examine yourself? In a tf game, that should be a given thing, and not take up mana. That's a bad game design choice, for something you want to be a part of the journey.
- What's with the damn bunny curse? It overrides every other tf. I quit 5 runs in a row, cause I started getting the bunny tf, and there is no way from stopping or preventing it to override anything else. I was late in the Kobold curse in one run, then apparently I contracted that curse through normal attacks, and it slowly turned me into a bunny. Same thing happened with the cat. Bunny overpowers everything.
- Enemies shouldn't aggressively scale with the player, introduce new threats, not making the progression meaningless. I know it's a rougelite like game, but still... I never get to see anything but Mice, Bunny (Mostly), Cat or Kobold tf. Nothing else so far. The curse suppression doesn't mean anything, since you want to experience tfs. (And Bunny overrides them anyway...)
- Loot is completely RNG like, I had runs to level 7 with only food, not a single weapon or armor, which makes the game way too hard and luck dependant. A neat fix for would starting inventory or something, like classes, I guess.
- Spelling mistakes, but nothing extreme. Could use more flavor or detail, though.
Sad. I tried this game at version 0.5 or something, and didn't play for long for the same reasons. I can't say much has changed since then, except some nicer visuals, which are still basic. I don't want to be mean to the dev, I know it's a lot of work he put into this game, but damn... This just ain't fun.
