Sincai rated Cards of Gluttony

A browser game made in HTML5.

I tried out Cards of Gluttony on a whim while looking for some similar games that seemed interesting, but found myself pleasantly surprised with everything the game has to offer.

From a unique and very pretty art style, to an involved and interesting gameplay mechanic, I found myself wanting to play more. Each character feels unique, each boasting recognisable designs, personalities, and even decks to accompany their disposition, often introducing new mechanics or obstacles to find a way around. Many characters introduced are also given their own side plots, allowing you to find out more about the denizens of Plursdott.

As for the gameplay itself, while it can be slightly intimidating to start with, it becomes very intuitive with some time. There's no one playstyle you're necessarily forced to undertake and it gives a lot of freedom in how you want to play, whether it be all out stacking energy and attacking, or piling on de-buffs to whittle your opponent down slowly. The characters you fight in game also utilize and put these different strategies front and centre, introducing new cards for you to get your hands on following most encounters. With so much wiggle room, the core gameplay keeps feeling fresh even far into the story.

Additionally, while small, the settings in the game are very much appreciated. From toggling content preferences - a setting I am always delighted to see implemented - to letting the game give you a heads up prior to a battle scene so you can better prepare, the customisation is not to be understated.

This is not to say the game is entirely without fault. While I am very much enjoying the story, I find that the time I'm given in between can sometimes drag with me rinse and repeating the same routine until the plot continues. Sometimes this down time is nice to work off the repercussions of fights, but there are times where I found myself just wanting to continue. Furthermore, I wish there were a clear tutorial for creating new cards with the essences and materials you gather as I found it myself my accident but wouldn't have known about it otherwise.

As a whole, I am thoroughly enjoying what the game has to offer and if you think you'd be interested then I can't recommend trying it out enough! I'm looking forward to future updates and what is to come, both in story and content.
