A downloadable game for Windows and macOS.

This is a huge step-up in quality from all of the previous entries (sans Knight Bewitched Remake). There's more attention to the characters. The music is better. The choice of sprite work is fantastic.

I think it falls apart in the details. I didn't find the end satisfying, and I know this is the last one in the series that we'll receive. I'd played almost all of the games, but references I should know still slipped by me. There's lots of bugs: at least one that resets a flag and soft locks you. Several where you can clip through the terrain. In some areas, the music seems to delay between looping

The QoL updates are mostly good. I like the new battlefield look. Finally we have characters that all have a unique job. And an impressively constrained system of numerical advancement. Better shepherding of MP as a resource. Lots of ways for characters to be useful in any given fight. My only big complaint is that it's difficult to see whether something resists or is weak to something. Ditto for their status effects. It's not usually a problem. However, if you're fighting a gigantic monster, some or all of this information gets clipped off the top of the screen. Furthermore, a bar appears at the top of the screen when you are selecting actions to use, which prevents seeing what a monster is afflicted with at a key moment.

We get a trans character, yay! I think this is the first officially trans character in the series. I enjoyed her struggle, and how being victimized by bigotry turned her toward any sense of solace, until she found a way to heal that wound. And she's not the only queer character! Most of the Ambrose Saga romances are lesbian relationships. I think the two protags who are boyfriends are the first gay couple I've seen in the game, or at least with the main cast. And again, they're interesting both for how their relationship plays out over the course of the game, along with their internal struggles.

And Lilith finally has a significant speaking role and a presence outside of optional dungeons! I wanted to see more of her, and it's unfortunate we won't get something to close this out.

So, with all these great things, what could be the issue? Well... there's a lot of times when the writing doesn't work for me. A lot of referential humor is scattered throughout. Thankfully far less than one of the previous entries, but that also makes it all the more jarring when it comes up. The game has a resolution, but it feels like we're missing a real conclusion. There's also some elements I'm curious about that were never explored. And at times there's oddities in the world. Like a painting in an area at the end that says "everybody's friend." And somebody complaining about a specific amount of gold that would've enabled them to populate the stage with dancers, but which is a no-go since the person lied about the funds. I think these two things, and several others, come out of the Kickstarter. I like the idea, but I don't think it was cleanly integrated.

So, do I recommend the game? I think you should play Knight Bewitched first. If you enjoy that, I suggest skipping to this one. These are the two games that have the best polish and story development. If you want to dig deeper into the lore, then you might want to check out the other games.
