I bought this tool to help make skyboxes for my game. While it shows promise, there are currently some significant issues to be aware of.
What works well:
It runs on linux when running through wine or proton. Tried on Linux Mint 22.
It includes a powerful terrain editor/painter
A lot of options for color customization
many stickers/brushes included
What needs work:
Stability Issues (major concern) The composer program is currently VERY unstable. Inevitably every single one of my sessions ended prematurely due to the program grinding to a halt from severe performance degradation. Make sure to export frequently. I really hope development focus goes towards improving stability of the program in following updates. Tested on both a laptop and powerful GPU desktop with same results.
Nonexistent GUI combined with a full keyboard layout for controls and dense manual pages made for an unintuitive learning experience. I would like to see step by step tutorials
Many advanced features like post processing rendering, importing, and alpha layer not well explained.
Why does moon/planet brushes have black square borders?
It was never explained anywhere how the cubemap images are exported x,y,z wise I had to figure it out by trial and error. Having this be more clear or have different export layouts would be helpful.
Overall, I am happy enough with this as a first alpha release especially to support a small developent teams project. Im cautiously optimistic about this projects future. However I do not feel it has earned the full 15$ price tag until at the very least a bit more work into stability and optimization is done.
