Sea of mushroom caps with pirates for pests hides a mycelial undergrowth blanketed by an estuary of spore clouds thick enough to support a human's weight (others probably need to wear weights to equalize themselves—but still might sink/float in changing conditions).
In the undergrowth, everything dies from disintegration, tho disintegration costs a soul; find and grow (and grow attached to) them. Harvest souls to spend on disintegrating threats (but don't carry around too many souls or you risk attracting a owl). Fire is snuffed immediately by dampening spore clouds here, so for light, expect to eventually turn a soul into a torch.
