Midwest Fantasy Wargame (hereafter "MFW") is a terrific product that sheds light on an oft-overlooked part of the tabletop role-playing hobby: what preceded the earliest edition of Dungeons & Dragons and ultimately informed its creation. There's nothing quite like it on the market.
In these pages you'll find fantastic artwork, good editing (though I found a few minor typos), and what amounts to an excellent old-school game system suitable for referees with a handful of games under their belts, or at least an appreciation for a loose, old-school way of doing things. This book is dripping with enthusiasm for early gaming materials and it's clear the author knows his stuff.
If you share that interest, I highly recommend this book. I hope that we eventually see a print-on-demand version.
