It's a first for me to play such games--not having had played Yumme Nikki than reading about it (though I'm aware it had literally influenced so many games and genres that weren't back then)--mainly because of seeing the description; it's rare seeing games that are built upon lived experiences, especially those outside what's made normative; very understandable experiences that are more than references, familiarities, or exposition. Pretty much the substance of dreams--association and connection--as well as having a genuine vibe to the (each) setting.

This game is a sensory experience. One's pace is set, and the backgrounds operate on a level of familiarity that isn't overstimulating--the music is comfy (and thematic), and it somehow got me thinking of the old pixel games where exploration was mainly the root of it (e.g. running about, finding a thing, realizing the thing despite seeing it visually firsthand that there's more about it, then going back because Oh The Thing Has More To It) and filling the in-between with one's thoughts (the set pace helps here even if I know it's like, design operations). Loved the guitar and instrumentals!

If this is what liminal space is, then wow have I been missing a lot given these themes. Also where I get it's a technical thing with movement and doorways, I really love that it was sudden where going to bed == 'crossroads of dreamtime'.

Each place has a (tarot?) card and each card must be collected before finishing off to show the credits--something I also found comfy (aside from noticing the shork shirt); it's linear in the way that finding all these is an experience of memory and connecting the dots (as well as the experience in the 'tisms on sensory levels and vibes that way, and how they earnestly jive with what's literally sensed), and it all begins by walking over to one's bed (which has the same design as doorways to other places--even doorways right behind oneself don't necessarily lead back to where one was--which is right on Yumme Nikki funtime).
