Really enjoyed this lovely game, so often in Interactive Fiction games with elements of mystery you get a sense of smugness or adversarialness from the author, but this one delivers the opposite experience, a joyful sense of collaboration as you work together to slowly peel back the layers of the story.
One of my favorite moments ever in IF was playing Photopia and getting lost for like 45 real life minutes in a labyrinth (because I'd missed a hint earlier) and then figuring it out and typing "L self", seeing the description of my spacesuit, taking it off, releasing my wings...
And with great joy typing "up". The freedom and catharsis I felt in that moment!!! The self-discovery!
So in Traveler, I very early on found a beautiful pink and white planet, its atmosphere tragically too hot for any human to survive. But then I thought, "Wait... AM I human?"
And when I saw what happened next I shouted "YES! THIS IS WHY I PLAY IF! THIS IS *THE GOOD SHIT!*"
And the rest of the game kept delivering on the satisfaction of that first moment, too. Well paced, not holding your hand too much but also giving you enough direction when needed
Figuring out the multiple endings was a tasty puzzle, and the sense of gradually increasing understanding felt great.
As the game does a lot with a little text during most of play, the unlocked "secret" epilogue lushly filling in details was immensely satisfying. Don't miss it!
