KoptenOwl rated MinotaurStories

KoptenOwl rated a Visual novel 1 year ago
A downloadable Visual novel for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android.

I generally found Minotaur Stories to be a bloated experience. Especially in the beginning, there seemed to be a lot of text whose purpose was murky. I like a good long narrative as much as the next owl, but I look for that narrative to do something (develop character, move plot along, make us more intrigued about the setting). I feel like a good 1/3 of the prose could be cut, and that would help keep the attention of the reader.

I really didn't get good sense of the MC either. Besides a lack of memories and that he might have transformed, there wasn't that much compelling me to be interested and follow his experience. Other characters didn't seem to be developed much from their archetypes, either.

I dropped off around halfway through. There may have been some plot after that point before I started skipping, but there was nothing in that first half to give me some sort of hook or foundation to keep delving further

Backgrounds and transitions were decent, and I quite enjoyed the book options screen. The dev clearly knows how to frame things and have a decent UI; I think they could see a vast improvement if they had an editor who pushed them to improve the efficiency and tightness of their narrative.
