KERCHE!!! KERCHE I KNOW YOU FOLLOW ME ON ITCH.IO KERCHE PLEASE RELEASE PART TWO KERCHE!!!

I don't know what I necessarily expected after Mithradatium a couple wolfjams ago, maybe mithradatium 2? That felt like a period piece, a mix of a classic written in the late 19th/early 20th century and the sci fantasy boom of the 60s and 70s. I wasn't necessarily expecting "I got chased through the oldest house by the eldritch manifestation of my [redacted for spoilers]" but hoooogh my goddddd it's so good.

I kinda like that we never find out anyone's names? I mean, part of me hopes we get them in part 2, part of me hopes we don't, I'll be satisfied either way. I love the setting, and the effects. The typewriter UI is extremely charming. I appreciate how often the background is some menacing liminal space, occasionally twisted in an impossible way. Despite the fact that Temp Hire NEVER FUCKING LISTENS TO IT I appreciate the bullshit geigercounter.

Speaking of, oh my god. Temp Hire my beloved. This poor cat... he's trying so hard. I mean design alone, the scarred face, the torn ear, the diminutive stature, his facial expressions, all extremely endearing. But I think I was really sold after the first encounter in the janitor closet and the narrative mentions it's not the first time that he's been chased by someone who wanted to kill him. I love him so much, I just want him to be okay, even though he's kinda dumb and woefully underqualified. As for his coworker...

It's actually been a few days since I went through Terminated, reading it out loud with my partner. I've been gestating on it because I'm trying to figure out why Tech Support is living rent free in my brain. I'm not usually a big fan of wolves (ironic I know), but between his gay little glasses, his extremely forward behavior, and his body type... oogh. The stupid photocopier scene, the basic instinct call back on the desk, the outline of his jock peaking through his dress pants... the fact that he's bottom leaning... I need him. His personality doing a lot too, I love his goofy puns, and jokes, and his willingness to help out the rookie. Also thank you! if I got smacked back into the closet I would also turn my "office" into a cozy little den and keep collecting my paycheck.

Honestly it's a really good read. It's easy and progresses really naturally, and the sense of comedic timing is brilliant. "They're no longer with us." The setting is also really enticing, the bleak dystopian scifi. I think lots of places with liminal spaces that try and add a horror element by having something chase you, forget how scary a brutalist infinite liminal space is by itself. The shifting Research Hospital is already quite scary, and then the rippling red flesh and meat under that concrete is a compelling contrast. Take the time you need, and I know that I said I wanted a Mithradatium followup, but know that I am extremely excited for part 2. Can't wait to explore the archives.
