Overall I was impressed. The function of the flashlight is a cool idea that I haven't seen before. More importantly, the sound, graphics, environments, and pacing work together very successfully to create a sense of dread while building both intrigue and tension. I didn't have high expectations, because in general terms the game is similar to many other short first-person horror games, but as I played I was surprised by how strongly the concept had been executed.
Although I enjoyed most of the game, I'm sorry to say that the one jump-scare (at least, the only one I encountered in my 1 playthrough) left a bad taste in my mouth. Jump-scares can be good sometimes, but in this case, the event itself was not really interesting or imaginative — it only startled me, just as a cat jumping out of a closet would have startled me. After such a good build-up of tension, spending it all on a generic scare like that seemed wasteful.
Still, this was close to being a 5-star game. I hope to see more from the developer!
