TheGiftOfGabes rated Lofi Bards (To Study and Relax To): A Magical, Musical TTRPG

A downloadable game.

I really wanted to like this game but it fails to have an identity of its own as it tries to be deeandee but not deeandee by borrowing the most superficial of storygame concepts.

There are a bunch of interesting things in there such as random tables for classrooms, the notestrider, magic items and such but what I find most egregious is that the game relies on vibes alone without the mechanics actually tapping on them.

The guidance for running sessions is lacking, especially when it comes to resting, adventuring and studying cycles. Running this game in general gave me a lot of anxiety, I asked the players to replace the system after a few sessions and it actually worked a lot better.

Finally, the writer states that they avoid bioessentialist tropes but the whole "heritages" section makes it clear that the writer doesn't actually know what that means.

When I brought these things up as a comment on the game page a while ago, the comment simply got hidden/deleted. So I'll leave it here as a rating instead.
