A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

hello! here's my review:

  • The final picture showing the red crystals in the cage is really the crux here, the culminating "oh, shit" moment which ties it all together beautifully; seeing the red cube and the escaping people is just the icing on the cake. The narrative is simple but effectively conveyed by the switch between the calming music and relaxing palette of the first area to the ominous wind and stark red/greys of the second. The graphics and ambience in general are quite attractive. This is somewhat let down by the buildings having apparent interiors that you're unable to access. That brought me out a bit.
  • Controls are adequate, even if the walking feels kind of floaty somehow. For some reason, though, you can walk into the water, which puts a blue filter on your screen until you awkwardly hop out. It's not like you can go out into the water so I don't know why you can do it at all.
  • Taking pictures that lined up with the photo never felt frustrating; there's a generous amount of leeway given here. Since it's the central mechanic I'm glad it works out well. The game also hints where a picture is supposed to be taken if you take too long to figure it out, which is appreciated, I suppose, but I wish it took a bit longer to activate, as I had almost figured a tricky shot out before it was spoiled for me. It's also an inventive mechanic that ties in with "discovery of a ruined past" very neatly, and I love how it plays with the fact that the past and present differ, which forces you to pay more attention to what could be constant.
  • Overall a tidy and nice little experience! I can only wish it was longer and more robust, but maybe the mechanics would have worn thin by then.
