MagellanicGames rated Quartermain and the cult of Cthulhu Demo

A downloadable game for Windows.

Played an early version of this and ,WOW, has this come a long way.  First off, loving the range of settings and options.  The head-bob had me worried but was no trouble just disabling that.  It is also easy to just look up the controls and switch them around so yeah, massive win.  Nice being able to change resolutions/fullscreen/window mode.

The intro area is really cool, very nice touches especially with actual voiced audio.  It was also good in preparing me for handling the first level, which if you read the intro etc. is not the first level of the game.

So, the gameplay is FAST, like super duper fast.  I think for me it is too much but then, these levels are sampled from the later part of the game so a gentler introduction to the gameplay may alleviate this.

Once my reactions and mind did settle though, this is really solid.  The level design is interesting and intriguing.  Was certainly making me want to delve further.  Navigation around the levels was fine, though I couldn't get the map to work. Maybe be a bug? But it was good that I could make do without it.

The weapon selection is really cool. I think getting them all at once makes it harder to evaluate them, but I really liked the bog standard pistol.  The shotgun seemed okay, but then I found it hard to really use just because of the pace of combat.  The smg is just simply the most fun to use, though the revolver fanning is pretty sweet.  Reminds me of Ion Fury's.

My one criticism of the UI is the health is bottom left, but the ammo is top right, so I found tracking my ammo/clip was tricky.  It'd be nice to have the ammo/clip moved to bottom right.  I'm not a fan of these kind of options, but if you can simply add a quick twiddle to move it based on player preference then that would also work.

Finally the art work, as usual, is just fantastic.  It is bright, vibrant and cohesive.  It is easy to identify the different enemy types/archetypes from distance which is awesome.  This supports the fast pace.
Anyway, yes, really solid and if I get chance I'll see if I can actually beat the levels as I got my arse handed to me
