Spoiler-Free Review: Promises to Keep is (as of 0.1) a short but charming visual novel with 5 romanceable characters, a writing style that gives vibes of Socially Awkward mixed with more stereotypical writing that you'd normally see, and an art style that's easy to find adorable with each character showing tons of emotion. Would absolutely give a read as I find that this title has a lot of potential!

If you're readin this then you better have checked out the game already because It's GOOD, this is your last warning! Alrighty, to start this off I've gotta say, I LOVE the characters in this game, I see so much of myself in Artemis, I am a SUCKER for socially anxious ADHD (also so me) gamers like Ollie, I'm not big on childhood best friend tropes but I can't hate on Rofi's puppy eyes, and to be honest I'm not big on Hunter or Theo's characters but I get their appeals and the writing is well done. The writing gives off a mix of Socially Awkward's writing but mixed with more usual writing you'd see in these kinds of visual novels which is amazing as I'm a massive fan of theirs. The art, whooo boy they've packed a LOT of emotion into (adorable) still images and the background are nothing to scoff at either. I believe this is a 5 star VN but there's one thing holding it back, and it's that the main character acts like they know these complete strangers WAYYY to well. I get it, you're writing this knowing all about these characters and therefore it sprinkles into the writing, but the main character going "i feel like *blank* would feel/do this" or "Then of course *blank* does that" with people they've known for less than a day (excluding rofi of course), it's just a tad to narrator-y in some parts. This last thing isn't part of the review but a message to the devs, PLEASE DONT RUSH THINGS! I've played wonderful games such as these where the main character suddenly meets a lot of people, please give them time to connect and get closer over a period of time, people don't go from strangers to sleeping together in a matter of days (usually) but I've seen it happen far too often as readers "wanna skip to the romantic bits" but relationships don't appear out of thin air, that is my one request. Thank you to anyone who reads my ramblings and I hope you read more soon!
