Quite clearly a game by an amateur - it has a  definite sense of humour and doesn't take itself seriously. It utilises many meta jokes, some of which genuinely caused me to laugh aloud - the first enemy you encounter very much sets the tone, and the guy in prison for tax fraud is excellent - and some of which went on a bit too long (talking to the merchant after acquiring your first party member sticks out) and got a bit heavy handed, which made me wish for a proper dialogue skip option. Various typos, but not so many it gets grating. Information is supplied as relevant via nearby signs at quite appropriate moments.

I enjoyed the item descriptions, particularly the Spiked Shield, and appreciate that the different types of doors have different appearances. The spiked shield originated from an area with nice environmental storytelling. Show-don't-tell was also well done near the end, it being quite obvious what the being is; I also enjoyed the excuse as to why their thoughts were carved in stone, it was logical nonsense. The real-life references started feeling weird to me when they got really anachronistic; the healing potion names were simply entertaining by contrast, and I'd recommend the pirated ones for out of combat healing. I enjoy the subversions of expectation that came with treating NPCs as people. Other than the expendable soldiers. Oof to the loyal soliders. The executioner was beautifully done in turn - its impressive how many tonal layers were expressed in just the word choice.

There are a remarkable amount of layers for such a short game, with a lot of replayability - I got emotionally invested enough to be outraged at some results! And to rethink my choices. I would absolutely consider playing a game focused on the guy arrested for tax fraud! And the merchant for that matter.

There's a UI when you sell stuff that has literal arrows which only turned up when I used my touchscreen. I found it mildly amusing.
