Carryin out an evaluation of The Longest Walk is a challenge. I spent days thinking about what i wanted to write and what elements to evaluate. However, the more I thought about it, the harder it became to rate it based on a 'number of stars'. Don't get me wrong, TLW is brilliant, the author who also occupies the role of graphic artist, interviewer and scholar did a job beyond any expecations. But it is precisely because of the nature of the work that it is difficult for me to evaluate it.
A few minutes after its conclusion, I realized that I sat for longer trying to absorb and understand what I had just experienced than 'playing' itself. In other words, although the time experienced was minimal, the impact was immeasurable. But this experience made me question whether TLW can really be classified as a 'game' or as an 'immersive experience' as a whole.
To be clear, The Longest Walk is a fantastic experience and I was surprised by the results of the developer's work and dedication and I recommend it to anyone who desires to gives it a chance. The reflection mentioned above aims to adress how certain works and artistic projects manifest themselves in curious, surprising and unique ways.
