Max Dhampir rated Soul Devourer

A downloadable game for Windows.

I picked this game randomly from the front-page and my review after playing it is 4/5. The game felt quite good to play. I liked many things about it and didn't like some, but overall I had positive feelings after finishing the demo. The game has tons of potential and I just wanted to say good job and keep polishing it, I'm sure the finished game will be even better.

Good:
+ Movement felt great
+ Jumping was accurate and fun
+ Animations were smooth
+ Ground Attacking was impactful
+ Air attacking after player is falling down felt nice
+ Attacking after turning in air was snappy and good
+ Spell casting like heal and shield breaking were on point
+ Blood splatters
+ Atmosphere felt really dark and gloomy, which I guess was the point
+ Story has potential
+ Running, dashing, landing sounds are great

Bad:
- Knockback after hitting enemy in the ground felt odd and interrupted the flow
- Air attacking right after jump stopped upwards movement and started to go downwards instead and that felt the worst, needs to have smoother transition
- Bosses needs more variation to their patterns, they all felt like fighting the same boss
- Map didn't help much since it was so zoomed in so got lost quite few times
- Menu movement with controller was bit hard since it moved randomly sometimes and didn't do as wanted
- Could be more cutscenes here and there
- Enemy projectiles were similar to essence gain projectile which was confusing in tight situations, maybe essence from enemies could be either instant or much faster
- Jump dash sometimes got stuck to ceiling
- Up attack from ground felt unnecessary
- Bigger rampage attack felt laggy when it hit
- Taking damage sound could be more "girly" and have variations
- Falling to liquid/spikes could be more visual and show a little bit more so it feels more punishing before it teleports you to checkpoint
- Camera movement was off here and there and looking down could be faster and show bit more and character could crouch too
