antperson rated Sage Fusion 2

antperson rated a game 7 years ago
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android.

An excellent work again!  As in the first Sage Fusion, there is much delight in exploring the city and interacting with its inhabitants, observing the (sometimes funny) characters' reactions, following the plot, and the fights. Plus great visual art and music. It's the only visual-novel point-and-click RPG hybrid I can think of, and this is a great formula well executed.

The difficulty for the fights is just right: challenging enough to be entertaining, but not so hard that you get stuck for hours instead of enjoying the story. The fighting system in itself is quite good: fun and to the point, and I like that all the fights are integrated with the plot and the exploration; conflicting situations lead to fights, they don't seem to just occur randomly.

I did however encounter some technical issues, which didn't seem to be present in the first Sage Fusion:

- visual glitches with the text, especially in the "visual novel" phases, and in the item menu during the "point-and-click" phases. Not to the point of having the text unreadable, but still a little annoying

- complete crashes: occasionally, the game would freeze for a few seconds, and then shut down. Sometimes at unfortunate times, like after a long fight, and the progress would be lost and I would have to do the fight again. It was less annoying when it happened during phases of exploration or pure plot, thanks to the autosave feature.

I think the game may need to be updated for modern systems. Without the glitches, it would easily be a 5/5.
