This is one of the best solo RPG’s I’ve played.
Caveat - I am a huge fan of Dune, which this game mostly borrows its setting from, and a huge fan of exploration games - so this game is almost tailor-made for me!
GLIDE clocks in at 80 pages and is fairly lightweight rules-wise, but has a decent amount of variety in things to encounter, which is important in a game about exploration.
And exploration is the focus here, not combat. Survival is another key element - your resources are limited (water for you and fuel for your glider) and you’ll spend some of your time maintaining a supply of both.
I particularly like how some discovered locations are larger than 1 hex in size, and that you can travel faster (depending on your speed) through already discovered hexes. There are unique events as well as more standard locations to discover.
The rules are very easy to follow and well formatted, provided in pages or spreads and there’s a low-ink version with different shading on some pages and has mostly-black pages changed to white.
Art is nice and fits the theme very well - again this game borrows a lot from Dune, but not too much which is great - the setup is similar, but there is a different story going on here.
There are rules for playing on the same map with later characters and playing 2 players at a time.
I’d highly recommend this to anyone who likes mapping/exploring games - liking Dune is a huge plus as well but definitely not necessary to enjoy this game.
