It's interesting to see the messiness of being queer in such visceral ways: the relationship one has to the body, to each other, to hate. There is such a level of love and understanding for these characters in the writing that I've never felt in a lot of places. They all feel much younger than they actually are but this makes sense through the lens of queerness: you only get to live the youth you missed out on when you get to the age one would be typically embarrassed by it
