dukethepcdr rated Dragon Strike

A downloadable game for Windows.

Dragon Strike is quite playable for a first level Alpha test. The aspects of the game that are done are excellent.  Impressive use of adaptive soundtrack that changes to a battle theme when enemies attack. Very helpful when being attacked from out of your line of sight. Uses new songs that sound very good.  The sounds of the enemies are suitable disquieting. Not a lot of voice acting in the game yet, but what there is, is very good.  Some sounds haven't been added yet such as helicopter noise and sounds for striking certain objects, but the sounds that are ready are quite effective.  The sounds of the rifles are fairly realistic.

Your character animations are top notch. When you equip and use each item, you'll see fluid and accurate animations of how the thing might be used. Even health packs are more interesting than just a glow or a text box saying you used it.

Models for weapons and much of the environment have detailed textures. The areas off the streets are covered in a tall wheatgrass looking grass that not only looks good, but heightens the sense of surprise and dread as you can't see enemies until they part the grasses close to you. As you move through the map, you are kept on your guard, never knowing for sure that enemies won't come out of the grass, or from behind the corner of a building or something and rush at you.  Sometimes, you can see them wandering about in the distance, or coming down the street, but often enough, they'll surprise you.

If you enjoy playing games like Fallout 3, Resident Evil, etc. you'll enjoy this Alpha test.  I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next.
