HoneyshuckleEX rated Taimumari: Definitive Edition

A downloadable game for Windows and Linux.

So. The game starts out strong, with some interesting weapon mechanics, however it begins to fall flat with limited healing, inconsistent damage from enemies, and very awkward platforming. Movement mechanics are incredibly limited, with the biggest one I can think of being a ‘time reverse’ mechanic, so you can undo a missed jump, however the system is awkward and the buttons to activate such powers felt unwieldly. To a lesser issue, the plot is all over the place. Ignoring the poor translation as much as I can for this; as a language barrier doesn’t help, every boss is supposed to have a tragic backstory to make us think about why they’re doing this. However, each one of these tragic backstories, (except for Two-sided girl, iirc) is only a couple of dialogue boxes long, and doesn’t really come across as to what they’re upset about. Not to mention the bad guys supposedly have stolen control over time. You should just… lose at that point. That’s a very OP ability to just have, and I don’t see how lasers and swords are going to fight against time manipulation. All and all, the game has some good parts, but there are a plethora of issues that bog the game down, and make it a slog to play.
