SnepShark rated Betrayal At Club Low

SnepShark rated a game 3 years ago
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

I’ve been waiting so long for a game that does what Betrayal at Club Low sets out to do.

It’s a compact game you can easily finish in one sitting; a perfect slurry of West of Loathing's tone and replayability, Disco Elysium's non-combat-focused gameplay, Dicey Dungeons' luck mitigation mechanics, and A Short Hike's length.

Maybe I've spent too much time playing tabletop games where managing probability is a large part of the fun, but the mechanical aspects of this game were very enjoyable for me, personally. I played Off Peak for the first time after playing this game's demo, and the love of board games that's readily apparent from that game's world is just as apparent in this one's mechanics.

My one gripe was that there are some small details in the world that just aren't visible with the new camera vs Cosmo D's previous games. I wouldn't have noticed them if I hadn't extracted the game's assets to peek behind the curtain, haha.

(I played this on Steam, since the launch discount wasn't available here yet. IDK if it was intentional, but delaying an Itch discount until after the 10 review mark would make some sense, haha.)
