Rules and reporting

Hey, folks! Thank you very much for helping out by reporting posts and such. But sometimes it can be misleading. For example, there's no rule that posts in Recommend a Game should have a screenshot or video. That's just for Release Announcements. No worries, even moderators mix them up sometimes. But it's better to let small rule violations slide than to berate innocents for nothing, okay? Cheers!

While I can’t be certain I feel like I know exactly what case you are referring to and I’m reasonably certain that had to be me. (And even if it wasn’t it could very well have been me.) I’ve already apologized to the innocent person in question, but I also feel the need to talk to you separately, because I have wronged you in a different way:

First of all: Thank you, for kindly offering me to remain silent and take the scolding anonymously. At the time I was likely browsing the Release Announcements and the Recommend a Game subforums back to back and must have mixed up the categories. At no point was it my desire to enforce my own, personal ruleset or misappropriate itch.io’s features or moderators to do so. What I am sorry for towards you isn’t that a made a mistake, but rather that I needlessly annoyed the innocent person in question (who is kind of in your care, as we all are as a community) and caused you wrongfully berating them simply because you trusted my judgement - therefore maneuvering you into an uncomfortable position. And for that I feel sorry.

On a brighter note I will strive to be more careful when reporting, and maybe more forgiving in certain things, in the future. But I want to be honest/realistic with you as well as with myself: There are certain (other) things that annoy me and I just cannot for the life of me shut up about them, after having been triggered enough times. I think a few of my forum posts might be a testament to that.

I hope today will be a good day for you, No Time To Play.

Sorry for going this route. I'd have used a DM if that was an option. And hey, it's my fault too, I should have paid more attention. Thank you again for all the help, it's made a big difference as of late!

When it comes to this post you have nothing to be sorry about. With itch’s social features being what they are you approached the situation rather tactfully: A very civil, informative thread without naming any names and giving me the opportunity to respond as an option without any pressure.

When it comes to “fault”… Like I said: You trusted me - or rather my judgement. And at a glance, those two lists/subforums do look really similar, so I guess my mistake was at least easily replicable. Though I will be more careful in the future.

Lastly, I’m glad to hear that some of my other contributions were more helpful. I like your work as well. ;)
