How to know what project to focus on?

I need help! And maybe we can help one and other?!

Instead of game-jams and short game projects i want to focus on one and really get it done and polished. But I have no idea what project would be perfect for this. My goal is to build a portfolio as a programmer & developer for junior/ lower level job in the industry and have (for now) one game/ android app that shows that I can finish project completely. How do you know what project is the most smart?

In my case i have these options:

  • A simple card android app with kinky/ sexy model pictures (I'm a photographer). It kind of sells itself so this will result in more downloads then other projects . https://guldor.itch.io/latex-fetish-solitair (early version)
  • A fun little/ cute puzzle-game app, this will be original and show something unique, fun, and will not offend anyone. This this is better to show off my skills but also a lot harder to promote since there is not really a clear audience + a over saturated marked. https://guldor.itch.io/citybuilder (concept version)
  • A visual pleasing game, more to show a cinematic story, atmosphere and not so much depending on programming skills but more on level desing, mood, style and things like this. https://guldor.itch.io/soulsucker (gamejam version)

All options would be best since together it sounds like the full package. But i need to start with one.

Any idea's or anyone with the same problem?

Thanks!

Since I'm only making games as a hobby it is normal for me to jump from project to project, so I may not be very helpful on that end. But from a consumer point of view I have to say this (and please, don't be offended).: if you want to make a good impression you're going to be more careful with your game descriptions. It's not right grammatically and some words are wrong, too. English isn't my first language and even I can see that. For me as a consumer it might not be a problem, but if you want to get a job that way it could be a big obstacle.

If your goal is to get into the gaming/programming industry I would go with the city builder game you have started. My reasons are as follows:

1) The style of that game is more in line with what lots of game companies like to make (especially companies that make games for App stores).

2) That game had more comments and engagement than your other projects. Player feedback will go a long way in motivating you to finish something.

The very first thing you need to concentrate on during implementation of the project is to organize the people and the resources that you have. Besides this it is also necessary to ensure transparency for errors. plaster knife
