Why can't I download Defend the Keep?

Some time ago I bought Defend the Keep (game page here) and I recently tried to download it, but all I get is "there's nothing here".  I can't download it from the website or within the app.  So did the developer (or itch) just take my money and run, or am I missing something?

The developer seems to have removed the page, or at least it’s not public anymore. I’m not sure if there’s any policy for refunds in cases like this, but this is all caused by the developer of that game, Itch has no say on if a game is public or not (assuming it follows all the rules and got past initial reviews).

Assuming you had the chance to download the game the moment you bought it, I don’t think there’s much you can do now. An admin/mod will be able to confirm if there’s any chance of refund, but I’m pessimistic, as you’ve already had the chance to download the game and keep it forever.

Hmmm. I seem to have misunderstood what kind of service itch really is, if that's the case.  I will keep my opinions to myself for the time being, until and unless I hear from Itch in any kind of official capacity.  So far there has been no response to any of the emails I've sent.

We try our best to discourage creators from removing those games that were bought by at least one person. Such games should remain available to their buyers even if they're not otherwise public anymore. But creators can get around that; we can't prevent them entirely without infringing their rights and causing other, bigger problems.

As for support, it seems to be still backed up, judging by other support requests I've seen recently. I can ping an admin if you think it's taking too long.

Thank you for your reply.  No, I think I will just eat the $10 loss and consider it a lesson learned.  It's just grating that I specifically asked this developer where I should buy the game in order for him to get the best cut, and he said that would be itch, so that's what I did.  Had I done what I normally do and just bought it on Steam, I'd be able to play the game whenever I like.

I appreciate you discourage creators from doing this, but the very fact that it's possible leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I don't think I'll buy any more games from itch.  No hard feelings; I wish you all the best.
