Just got this game via the bundle. When I attempt to start it, a (blurry) splash screen appears for a few seconds, before some sort of error window pops up for a second, and then it closes.

Running the Windows version on Win 10.

Sorry about the trouble!

If you could, then perhaps you could also for the log files?

They're under this path:

Windows: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Placeholder Gameworks\Death and Taxes\

They're called Player.log and Player-prev.log.

Just send them to me to oak@deathandtaxesgame.com

If you have the Windows 10 N version, then you most likely need to install the Windows Media Foundation pack.

You can download it here! https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/mediafeaturepack

Let me know if you can find the logs and how the update pack works (if at all) :)

hey I'm having this problem too - bought off bundle, played up until day 5 and enjoyed it, but then I put it down and now I have the same blurry splash screen and a Unity error window opens before it crashes. There's no Windows Media Foundation pack for my version of Windows - how am I meant to get past this? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it doesn't seem to work

There may have been a catastrophic error with the savegame. Luckily we save backups for this case :)

You can find the backups here:
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Placeholder Gameworks\Death and Taxes\Saves

You can choose an earlier day save, rename it to Save.RIP and then overwrite the Save.RIP (or delete the old one beforehand) in the path %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Placeholder Gameworks\Death and Taxes\Saves

To open the folder conveniently you can just copy and paste that path into your Run app (Windows Key + R shortcut or type Run into the Windows search bar).

Let me know if this helps!

Looks like the update was the issue, installed it and game ran fine, thanks.

Thanks for confirming ^_^
