Hello!
I’m a solo developer working on my first visual novel, and I’m looking for a 2D artist who’d like to collaborate on a small, emotional project. The game is still in the writing phase, so the art can develop alongside the script.
---
The Project
Working Title: Selfsame: The Life I Could Have Loved
Format: 30–40 minute micro visual novel.
Tone: Quiet, melancholic, realistic, emotionally grounded.
Platforms: Steam + itch.io.
Core Premise:
A solitary protagonist lives in a small apartment as years pass quietly around them. Neighbors come and go. A shy pianist upstairs plays a melody that slowly evolves, while our character stagnates. And Lumi — a warm, lively neighbor — keeps trying to pull the protagonist back into life.
The story explores anhedonia, inaction, regret, fading memory, and the slow passage of time.
---
Visual Needs (2D Anime / Semi-Realistic)
Backgrounds:
~5 versions of the same apartment interior, subtly aging over time.
(Optional) 1 hallway/interior connecting space.
Characters:
Lumi (multiple expressions & a few pose variations).
Possibly 1 additional minor neighbor character.
CGs:
1–2 key emotional moments
Art Direction:
Soft, grounded anime or semi-realistic style.
Subdued palettes.
Quiet, lived-in rooms.
VN-friendly, consistent, and atmospheric, not flashy.

A Few Notes About Me
I’m a solo dev, handling writing + scripting.
This is my first game, so I’m keeping the scope very small.
I have a very limited budget, but I can pay per asset and I’m open to your rates.
The script is currently in progress — if we work together, your art can develop alongside the writing.
---
Scope & Workflow
I provide a clear script, references, and detailed notes.
Flexible deadlines.
Payment on a per-asset basis (small indie budget; open to your rates).
Full credit on all platforms.
