PhD Research – Looking for Game Devs & Studios to Collaborate With (2026-27 Fieldwork)

Hi everyone,

I’m currently preparing for fieldwork as part of a PhD research project focused on how game developers’ perspectives and practices are shaping the future of generative AI in game design. At this stage, I’m looking to connect with indie game devs & studios (based in the UK or US) who might be open to collaborating during the fieldwork period, which runs from early summer 2026 through September 2027.

Collaboration could involve:

- Informal conversations or interviews with team members

- Observational access (on-site or hybrid)

- Studio-based engagement that fits your workflow and comfort levels

Importantly, you do not need to be using generative AI to be part of this study. I’m equally interested in developers who are skeptical of, avoiding, or pushing back against GenAI, and what that tells us about how futures of technology are being imagined within the industry.

I’m also keen to contribute back to the community during my fieldwork. If you or your team would benefit from support with social media outreach, writing, or narrative design, I’d be more than happy to help where useful.

If you’re open to this—or know someone who might be a good fit—I’d love to hear from you. You can get in touch via:
game.dev.design.research@gmail.com

Thanks for reading, and I'm looking forward to connecting!

Hi Amara,

It's probably because you can name it whatever you want but your e-mail address makes me kind of suspicious. So generic. The kind of e-mail-address fraudsters and spammers like to use.  At which university do you do your PhD? Sure you have an e-mail address there too.
