Samsung XR support?

Was able to install the apk that I used on my Quest 3, however it just loads to a black screen after asking for file permissions. Assuming it's just not compatible right now. Are you going to support this headset?

The Quest apk won't work with the Samsung GalaxyXR. Waiting on Unreal Engine to add support for AndroidXR, and I'll take a look into creating a standalone app for the headset. In the meantime, the PC version might work with PCVR streaming apps like Virtual Desktop, though I haven't tested it yet.

Ah ok cool. Yeah I also own the PC version but I'm waiting for ALVR to add support in the next week or so to test that out haha. Stuck from both directions right now lol!

It looks like Android XR supports the OpenXR standard.

Does any of this imply that the Samsung XR could already be supported with what's available now?

Developer

HereSphere is currently using Unreal Engine 4, which is still using SteamVR for PC and the Meta SDK for the Quest. In the process of switching to Unreal Engine 5, which will allow the use of OpenXR instead. Best bet for the short term is to wait for ALVR to add support.

Ah ok, misinterpreted what you had said, thought you were already on UE. Makes sense now. Yeah I'm hoping ALVR adds support this week because my PC is on Linux so Virtual Desktop isn't an option. Regardless, would still love to get this working standalone eventually! Thanks!

Just to updated you, ALVR ran into issues trying to add support and now they're not sure if, or when, they're going to add support for the Samsung XR. Since I'm on Linux I'm basically at the mercy of either them figuring it out or HereSphere adding in-headset app support. There's quite a lot of discussion on Reddit of there currently being no video player app on the Samsung XR, so I think you'd have quite a few immediate sales if you were first to market with one for the headset.

Personally, I would buy it for a third time (Once on Steam, Once on Quest 3, Once on my New Galaxy XR).  Best software there is, and dev is super responsive here and on reddit.
