My first game ever (simple pixel jumping game)

Hi everyone,

I just published up my very first game (Jumping Cat). It's a really simple infinite jumping game, kind of like Doodle Jump that I used to play when I was younger.

This was my first time coding anything ever. I've always been curious about how games are made, and I finally decided to just try it. It's been a fun challenge figuring out the jumping mechanics, cloud spawning, keeping score, all those little details that make it actually feel like a game.

I just wanted to share it somewhere with people and it feels good to finally have something to show for all those evenings spent learning.

Thanks for checking it out if you do!

Congratulations on your first game. It is very exciting to get a game done for the first time!

Cute concept and graphics.  Unfortunately, I die in less than a second, because there's seldom a cloud to jump to and the game starts to quickly - from the point I click Start I don't have time to get to the keyboards:  maybe it's for younger more agile people :-)

Fun little game! It mainly needs some more content right now, otherwise it’s not really something to play for more than a minute. Something like powerups, or maybe enemies to dodge? Also, it would be cool to have a high (literally haha) score depending on how far you climb.

One more thing is that it’s not intuitive that the screen loops horizontally. The first time I thought it was a bug. Maybe make the edges where the screen ends a different color?

EDIT: just realized there is a high score, however for me it is largely obscured by the top bar of my browser and I couldn’t resize it to make it visible

Thanks for playing and giving such helpful feedback. This was exactly what I was hoping for when posting here, it's cool to get feedback. I am excited to have things to work on and improve upon. Going to work on learning and implementing these updates. Thanks again for taking the time to play it and give such thoughtful comments.

If this is your first game then I'm impressed. You have completed a game, and its enjoyable to play.

You could keep working on this adding sounds, music & more effects to it.
