Hey all,

I'm a solo software developer who recently formed a small team after posting here a few weeks ago. We got some great responses from talented artists and musicians, a few of whom are already making awesome contributions to the project.

We’ve now locked in a project idea and Stage 1 of development is underway. However, one key team member, our writer, has unfortunately gone MIA, and the rest of the team is currently waiting on a solid narrative foundation to keep moving forward.

So, we’re looking for a writer to help shape the soul of the game.

Game Summary

"Loop.exe is a satirical, tile-based strategy game where a humanoid robot AI battles through a corrupted corporate skyscraper filled with office-themed monster archetypes. You’ll place tiles around a loop, fight enemies that spawn from those tiles, and rescue resistance members as you climb floor by floor to dismantle the dystopian bureaucracy."

Project Details

  • Engine: Unity

  • Scope: Small, achievable

  • Style/Genre: TBD — story-dependent

  • Timezone: I'm in Australia. Similar time zones are helpful, but not essential as there's usually enough overlap to collaborate smoothly.

Who We’re Looking For

A writer who:

  • Is fluent in English and has a strong grasp of tone, structure, and character.

  • Can write sharp, satirical, and imaginative prose that fits the game's tone.

  • Communicates clearly and is generally responsive (within ~24 hours). The project is casual, but people are relying on each other, and disappearing slows everyone down.

Responsibilities

We already have some game mechanics and visuals in place, but the narrative layer is what will bring it all together. Your initial priority would be to:

  • Write a story setup / backstory as soon as possible, so the team can continue building with proper direction.

After that, you’d be free to contribute at your own pace across areas like:

  • Intro story (e.g. for a short animated intro or in-game cutscene)

  • Player self-commentary

  • Short pre-fight dialog interactions with each unique enemy

  • Dialog with rescued resistance members

  • Flavor text for tiles, items, and lore entries ("knowledge items")

Additionally, although you would be filling the role of writer, you're also welcome (and encouraged) to contribute ideas to all other aspects of the game, as are we all!

And lastly, some Terms from the original post, as they still apply:

Structure and Terms

  • Casual, unpaid collaboration. There's no deadline, but we do want to be making progress continually
  • If the game earns money, profits will be split based on contribution. I’ll manage this and retain full control to keep things fair and conflict-free
  • I’ll be acting as the project lead/director: I want to maintain final say on decisions and direction to keep things organized and avoid common pitfalls with unpaid teams
  • Since clear communication is important (and I only speak English), excellent English is required, both written and spoken

If this sounds like your kind of project and you'd like to hear more, message me on Discord: EffYouCeeKay

If replying via the post, please include your Discord so I can reach out. Thanks!

Any concept art to show off?

I've had experience writing, I'll be glad to help! Also, if you want your game translated in other languages, I'm fluent in Spanish too. Already sent you a request through Discord

Great, thanks Sean!

Hi, EffYouCeeKay

This project looks damn cool. I'm a writer by trade (I actually started writing to escape corporate dystopian hell!) and I'm always drawn to fun, comedic gigs. Anyway, I'd love to chat to you more about the project, and see how I might be able to help.

I'm not sure if you're still looking for a writer for this project, but I've been writing and worldbuilding for 15 years. Currently working towards traditional publishing.

I write in many different genres and especially love developing lore and connective tissue between plot points.

If you still have a spot open I'd be very interested.

My Discord is: Kaidorak

Hey Kaidorak, thanks for the response!

We currently have a couple of writers which is enough for now, but I'll let you know if anything changes

P.S. Looks like your Discord account isn't accepting friend requests for some reason

if you are still looking for a writer please get ahold of me via discord. I'll write up a sample of what's provided here and send it to you to see if you like it.

Hey Fundur,

Thanks for the response! We now have a couple of writers which is enough for now. I'll keep you added and let you know if anything changes(:

Feel free to contact me as well if something opens up. My discord is pandabeartke . Looking to build experience in game writing. I've worked on six different short stories and currently working on a satirical urban fantasy novel that involves witty jabs at bureaucracy, regulations and the homeowner's association. My former supervisor was a fusion of Michael Scott from the Office and I experienced  petty little things like in OfficeSpace. I mean they hosted a potluck and a company townhall to celebrate our success on a Friday. Then the following week hosted another townhall to announce cuts. I had a feeling something was off and that we were  just being massaged before the death knell.
