0.07% CTR? Is it normal?

Hello everyone, I've been looking at my analytics of an asset that I released on the 2nd of June (Monday). I've gotten a decent CTR at first, 3% dropping to 1.5% over the week, with around 3k impressions IIRC. However, last Sunday (June 8, tiny spike in the below image), my impressions shot up to ~35k and my CTR tanked to 0.15%. It got a bit better a day after that and now it's way way worse that what I'd expected.

This is my current analytics:

I'm wondering if this is normal or has it happened to anyone? I followed all the tips/guidelines to properly setup my page and I don't think I've done super bad on my page considering my CTR was 1-3% during my first few days. I can only think of a couple scenarios that could contribute to this:

  • Bots (Does Itch fix the stat afterwards? I've been waiting for a fix but nothing so far)
  • A completely unrelated game jam happened during the weekend and a lot of people were looking for assets (My assets are pixel art fantasy weapon icons, so is quite niche/specific)

If you want to check out the page for reference (not tryna promote) - here's the link + what the capsule looks like:

All project pages get a spike in traffic at first, then enter a slump and have to build steady visibility again over time. That curve looks perfectly normal. Sure, 0.07% is a very low CTR, but that's what promotion is for.

I see, thanks for the reply.

Yeah, that seems like a crazy high number of impressions. Bots are a totally plausible cause.

I wouldn't worry about CTR too much in any case, though.

(EDIT:  I should note, I can't remember how many 7D impressions I was getting when I released new packs, and obviously the numbers are much lower now that they've been out a while. My CTR has never dipped anywhere close to that low, and it doesn't tend to be that high to begin with. My oldest, lowest-CTR pack is still the one that pulls in the most sales, while also being the most expensive, so it doesn't really seem like a big deal to me.)

Yeah, I've seen similar instances but CTR isn't anything to worry about

It's complex to explain, but it's not a technical glitch or a configuration issue; it's part of how marketing works.

Basically, the more your game is shown, the more impressions it gets.

The more people who receive those impressions click on your product, the higher the CTR.

On its own and without context, the CTR doesn't give you much useful information; you need to analyze it in the context of your promotion.

For example A, you advertise your game on several pages, and you have a low CTR. This means that the advertising isn't effective because your product reaches many people, but it doesn't capture their interest.

For example B, you don't advertise at all, and your game only receives visits from a specific Itch tag, and you have a high CTR. This means that your product is interesting to people searching for that tag.

Note that example A may have a low CTR, but you may still have more downloads/sales than example B.

Therefore, to take advantage of CTR, you also need to analyze your marketing strategy.
