A couple of bug playing with Colossus against the Sentinels

Hi,

I think I've found a couple of bugs in my game with Colossus against the Sentinels ([0.5.9.4]-colossus-sentinel-(107)-(795845555).json):

1) In this first turn, I played the Quincarrier. While still in alter ego, I was allowed to use it to generate a resource, although my identity didn't have the X-Men trait (I cancelled this, but you will see that it was allowed)

2) The first time the main scheme got over 5 threat, it was not reset to 0.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

In case it helps, another game in which the main scheme went over 5 but the response of removing 5 threat from it did not trigger: [0.5.9.4]-colossus-sentinel-(196)-(1499229492).json

Best!

Hi @quantumodo,

Thank you for reporting the bugs regarding card “32020” (The X-Jet) and “32087b” (Night of the Sentinels A), and for sharing your save files.

We believe you meant to refer to “32020” (The X-Jet) instead of “08023” (Quincarrier).

After reviewing your save file “[0.5.9.4]-colossus-sentinel-(107)-(795845555).json,” we identified the issues in steps 1 and 19.

The reason you were able to use “32020” is that we did not check your identity’s trait when you control it. We will address this in the next version.

Regarding the main scheme not removing 5 threat, this occurred because there is a “32100” card in play that has a “Crisis” icon.

Thank you again for your feedback!

Hi,

Thanks for your response. Yes, I meant the X-Jet, sorry about that.

About the main scheme, the rules about the Crisis icon say:

"While at least one crisis icon is in play, threat cannot be removed from the main scheme by any player."

This is not the case, because it is not a player that is removing threat, it is the scheme itself. I think threat should be removed in this case.

Thanks once again!

Hi @quantumodo,

Thank you for your response!

Regarding the main scheme and the Crisis icon, we have an example with “45101a” (Apocalypse) that states:

When the main scheme is completed, remove all threat from it (ignoring any crisis icons).

This statement indicates that the effect specifically ignores crisis icons. Therefore, we believe that “32087b” will NOT ignore crisis icons, and the rules about the Crisis icon still apply.

We appreciate your insights on this matter, and if you have any further questions or thoughts, please feel free to share!

I am completely sure that crisis icons only apply to player cards or actions and this is not a player card removing threat, so it should be allowed. And I think it is the unanimous opinion in the community as well: https://www.reddit.com/r/marvelchampionslcg/comments/17bmech/can_the_main_scheme...

I found a ruling where they explicitly state that crisis icons do not apply to encounter cards:

I thought about this for a while, and since the Upgrade Informant was spoilered, I have a question. It does a similar thing as Psychic Manipulation, but isn’t a thwart, but an upgrade. Does that mean, it doesn’t circumvent crisis icons? What is the defining thing, if something circumvents crisis? Being considered part of the identity or being a player card vs encounter card? Or even being specifically a thwart?

We are correcting a recent ruling we made on Informant, which emphasized the card’s theming over how it fit into rules as written. The updated ruling is that Informant does not circumvent crisis icons, given it is an upgrade that does not attach to “another friendly character” and therefore its ability is considered performed by the identity, so a crisis icon would prevent it from removing threat from the main scheme. For something to circumvent a crisis icon, it either has to explicitly state so (like Shadowcat) or it has to be an ability that isn’t an extension of the identity and is not on a card that a player controls, such as an ally or support. Environment cards and encounter cards are not controlled by players, so they are not affected by crisis icons in play.

Hi @quantumodo,

Thank you for sharing your insights and the ruling regarding crisis icons.

We will be updating the code to align with the new ruling that environment cards and encounter cards will not be affected by crisis icons.

Thank you for your understanding!

Hi @quantumodo,

If we understand the rule correctly, it states that an effect on a card that is not controlled by a player will ignore all crisis icons, right?

After we update the engine, we have two questions:

  1. Card “50050” (Informant) reads:

When a minion schemes, xxx, this activation removes threat instead of placing it.

Since it states “this activation,” we strongly believe that the threat is removed by the minion that has the upgrade “50050.” Therefore, removing threat is not the responsibility of a player, and as a result, the threats should be removed.

  2. Regarding the question we mentioned here: Clarification needed on crisis icon interaction with 30019.

If “30019” is attached to a scheme, the controller of it is not a friendly character, so it should be able to remove threat in that case, right?

We look forward to your response.

Hi,

Thanks so much for looking into this, I really appreciate it.

About Informant, there is a recent ruling:

Regarding Overwatch (30019), I think the logic is the same: this is a player card, so the action of removing threat is performed by the identity that owns the card so, again, threat cannot be removed with it from the main scheme. Moreover, Overwatch IS controlled by the player, so it cannot circumvent the crisis icon.

Hi @quantumodo,

Thank you for your thoughtful response and for clarifying the recent ruling.

Based on your insights, we will update the rules as follows:

  1. “32087b” (Night of the Sentinels B) will ignore crisis icons.
  2. “30019” (Overwatch) will not ignore crisis icons.
  3. “50050” (Informant) will not ignore crisis icons.

We appreciate your input on these matters, as it helps us ensure the rules are clear and accurate. If you have any further questions or thoughts, please feel free to share!

Thanks so much!!!
