I made my first game, now I need feedback! :D

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to read my post! I made my first game and I would really appreciate it if anyone could give me some feedback. When I was choosing a genre of my first game I wanted to focus on the basics and make them as solid as possible. Movement , controls and camera were what I thought of as being the "foundation" of a solid game, so I decided to make a 3D platformer in Unity.

Here is a link to the project: https://jack-anderson.itch.io/digital-abyss

Thank you so much for your help!

Hi Jack,

This beats my first game that's for sure! I completed the training twice. First time I got stuck in a bonus area... at least I'm pretty sure I was stuck. I jumped for the ending platform. (I should have seen that coming honestly lol)

Anyway, I noted a few things while playing..

I was a bit annoyed at how the tutorial text at the top of the screen just disappears forever after a short time. I missed I'd say 1/3 of it during my first playthrough and had no way to make it appear again.

About the movement/controls, I think it's good when on the ground and in the air. Sliding is nice, although I wonder why I can't do it indefinitely. What I'm having difficulty with is running on walls. It very slow. I think I'm supposed to jump when running sideways to go  faster, but half of the time I just fall. I also never managed to get through the wall jump + lasers obstacle the "right" way. From what I can tell, there's no good way to jump away from a wall. I always run out of jumps/dashes somewhere and die.

About the camera, I think it's as good as it can be. I like a free camera that doesn't get obstructed.

I hope this helps and good luck with your project!

Thank you for the feedback!

I will add a "replay" button for the tutorial text. I also see I have some work to do with the wall running to make it more responsive. This type of feedback is really important to me because, since I wrote and tested all the code I am too familiar with the controls and mechanics, so a potentially bad  new player experience doesn't always register with me.

I clicked on your profile and played the project pink hook demo. Very fun game, very cute character! When you get a good rhythm for the hook and start swinging it feels great. Thank you again and good luck with your projects!

Yeah I totally understand what you mean, and thank you I appreciate it :)

When i dead, it quits the game. :/ that's weird.

Does this happen immediately after the Game Over appears or after a button press? The game is supposed to pause with the Escape key , continue with the enter/return key and exit the application with a second Escape key press. Other than that you press the TAB to restart to the latest checkpoint or restart the game if you don't have any more lives. The only way to close the application is to press escape twice.  Does it exit the application or does it crash?

Oh then maybe it's my fault. Normally second escape key returns to the game.
