Where all team members will brainstorm on what game we will be creating.

Good morning everyone! so, "what's behind the door?"

Developer

Yes. It'l be a tricky one.

Yeah, i think it fits really well with an horror game.
Or not exactly an HORROR game, but with all the spooky vibes, yk?

Developer

That's what it seems like. It really depends on whether you want your game to be unique or not. I don't really care how unique the game is, just as long as it's fun to play.

Here's my idea. A dungeon crawler based on the OG Zelda game, except every door is randomized when you start. Like procedural generation: there would be preset rooms, but each door takes you to a different room every time you play.

That's really cool, i support this idea.

Here's another one: You are a gladiator in a Colosseum and "what's behind the door" are the enemies and bosses you fight. Like a cutscene plays and a big gate opens and a boss or a bunch of enemies come out.

I like the other idea a little more though.

Great idea too

A survival game inside a house, an apocalypse happened somehow, but the player doesn't know how, all you hear are knocks on the door, the objective of the game is to set some traps for whatever is coming to catch you, home alone vibes

Maybe it could be a bunker that the player lives in. So the player has been living there for years, but then they hear something happen on the outside (like an explosion or something), and after a while the knocking starts.

I had this idea for a game once where the main character lives inside a mix between a tank and a bunker. Then a nuke explodes. The souls of those that died then try to kill the player, the only survivor of the explosion, whom all the ghost are jealous of.  I never finished this game though.

I like it

Developer

Thank you!

Since it seems like only you and I are here, I think we should select an idea.

I think the two I liked most were the dungeon crawler with random generation, and the bunker one.
What do you think?
Developer (1 edit)

Exactly the same situation. the gladiator one was good, but those two were the best.

They were all good ideas, anyway, now we have to decide which one we're going to go with.

Yes, but how? They're both good ideas, yet we need to get started.... I think we have time to do either game well.

I think we should go with the dungeon crawler idea, setting some rooms and making them randomly generated seems fun but a complex mechanic, so we can stand out

I think that one would do good as well. What about the art direction. I think that a fantasy aesthetic would work well. But what do you think?

But whatever we choose we'll need at least tilemap and a main character and some enemies.

Yeah, i think the colorful fantasy is a great vibe for the game.

where would be the ambience? a deep cave dungeon? a castle? maybe a flat land maze.

Developer

That's a good question. I hadn't thought of that. I think if we have time later, we could make the player descend down and go from one area to another.

But I think we should start with a vibrant dungeon. Like a dungeon that is being lived in. With wooden rafters and stuff.

The next area could be a darker abandoned dungeon.

And maybe a demonic layer for the third level?

Also perhaps hidden bonus areas could be made of caves?

It makes sense.

last thing to think before we started i think: How the random maps would work, like, if we want the player to explore the dungeon and find hidden bonuses stages, how would it work? the player will have to go in specific order of rooms?

We need to discuss how we work and communicate on the game. It would be best if we can speak to each other on zoom, or some other way.

Developer

Your right! but I don't have a zoom. I think that we should be good with the way we are communicating so far, but if not I could work something out.

I dont have zoom, but i have a discord.

and i think a group chat is a good idea

Developer

I don't have a discord though....

oh XD

Developer

Yeah. sorry. You guys could talk on discord and tell me about you conversation.

Idea: Monty hall door problem... With a twist!

Developer

Could you explain?

I am suggesting some Monty Hall element in the game.

A classic Monty Hall game is when a player is confronted with three doors: Two doors hide nothing the third hides a prize. After choosing a door Monty opens ones of the doors that contains nothing and asks the player if he wants to switch. The math says it is better to switch.

There can be different twists:

1. More players. Or more doors. Or more Montys.

2. Monty tree: Doors lead to more Monty Hall games. Monty loops: Doors lead back to previous games.

3. Monty cheats and moves the prize (so you always lose, or always win)... Only way forward is to kill Monty...

Developer

Interesting. I really like that last one.
