MOSAIC Daily: A casual MOSAIC Strict TTRPG Jam

Hey all, I'm running a casual TTRPG jam called MOSAIC Daily

The jam includes 30 prompts for creating a short, MOSAIC Strict compliant TTRPG supplement. I'm challenging myself to make and publish one every day (or as close to it as possible). As it's a casual jam you're welcome to all, some, one, or none at all. You an also skip any prompts you're not interested in or do them in any order. The main purpose of the jam is an exercise in creative restraints as well as expanding the overall availability of modular, system-independent rpg content in the wild.

If you're interested in participating or just checking out what gets made be sure to check it out!

I'll personally be releasing all of my submissions for free under CC-BY, but since it isn't ranked you're free to submit them however you wish.

I will only be disqualifying submissions that intentionally ignore the MOSAIC Strict requirement (or are just blatant spam), and if enough people show interest I'd be willing to extend the submission deadline to accommodate late joins.

What is MOSAIC Strict?

For a full primer on the MOSAIC Strict design philosophy, make sure to read the blog article Nothing at the Bottom: MOSAIC Strict RPG Design by Michael Prescott. It's an approach to creating modular rules text that can be slotted into most rules-lite systems or combined to create a uniquely custom experience. To briefly summarize, the acronym MOSAIC stands for:

  • Modular: Any game text that explicitly claims to bean entire, complete RPG is not Mosaic Strict.
  • Optional: Any game text that describes itself as necessary for play is not Mosaic Strict.
  • Short: Mosaic Strict game texts are no more than 1500 words.
  • Attested: Mosaic Strict texts say they are Mosaic Strict.
  • Independent: Mosaic Strict texts do not refer to the mechanics or quantified state in any other game text.
  • Coreless: assume nothing else is in use beyond free-form play
