There is a ton of information out there about the basics and even some of the intermediate stuff about puzzle design. Stuff like no red herrings and having a catch to the puzzle is pretty well documented at this point.

But what about the advanced stuff?

To be more specific, what about the really subtle (or perhaps not so subtle) things that can be done to elevate a great puzzle to as close to a perfect one as humanly possible?

what about the advanced stuff?

Is there anything more advanced than no red herrings and a catch to the puzzle?

as close to a perfect one as humanly possible

Can you elaborate more about perfect ?

To clarify, I mean stuff that is maybe not immediately obvious to someone who wants to learn about puzzle design. For example, A common thing I see is that a lot of great puzzles are not actually one simple problem, but can be broken down into several smaller mini-puzzles.

And by perfect, I mean it cannot reasonably be improved upon. A puzzle where nuance and tile is accounted for (at least for the intended solution) is a perfect puzzle in my book.
