Hey guys! I’m an indie developer that loves making unique, short horror games. I like coming up with creative games like Mowing At Night and Socky’s Puppet Show and those have done decently well, but lately my games haven’t been doin too good. I want to make something that’s more than a 5 minute gimmick; I want to make a long (30mins minimum) horror game. Unfortunately I have no ideas at the moment which is especially difficult when making a longer game. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I would love to hear them. Any other feedback or tips on making a good horro game are also welcome! Thanks :)

Since you want to make longer game, why not start the game with normal setting? normal means there's nothing strange nor scary, just normal atmosphere and player's stats are normal. The game mostly could be anything such as RPG or point n click. Platformer and shmup could also work.

Then after halfway through the game, change the normality drastically, player moves slower and/or attacks weaker than normal. Atmosphere is changed to scary. Tension is increased.

Hmmm, I like that idea! The only hard part for me would be making the ‘normal’ game but it’s worth prototyping :)
