ANZU - Prehistoric Pixel Puzzle Game!

Hey everyone!

Me and Wasstyr are developing a game about an Anzu (dinosaur) that has to solve match-4 puzzles with unique and constantly changing circumstances, as you delve deeper and deeper into the underground jungles!

This is our first Devlog, so ill be sharing the progress we have made so far! Its quite alot and ill be sharing alot of content over the next days :) The plan is to have this game out soon!


The main gameplay will revolve around making 4-matches of the same blocks while collecting the treasures laying next to the connections you make! This will start very simple and small, but as you progress you can expand the puzzle as more hazards start to appear.

When you finish a puzzle you will drop down in the hub, where you can spend your earned treasures/resources!

One of the hub dwellers is the Shopkeeper! He can sell you HP refills, or if you're lucky he will sell you one of the more special items, like: The Meteor Bag, The Museum Key or even a Max HP upgrade! 

I will go into more detail about the other hub dwellers in the future :)

The left side of the hub will be your build area! You'll have to clean it first though, and that will cost you!

Once cleaned, you can build your own little 'Egg Hatching' area. Once eggs are fully grown they will pop into some nice goodies that you can use to make it further! You can build some efficient set-ups, and each building will have their own effects.

There's also secrets to be found! The final thing I will show in this first devlog is the museum. Once youve bought the Museum Key, you will be able to enter the museum door.


The museum is another big part of the game. Here you will be able to fill up museum pieces with bones to provide you with strong buffs! You can get these bones by playing the special bone puzzle to the right. This is all still very WIP and ill go more in depth on this on a later date

I will go over a couple more mechanics within the game.

One of the main mechanics revolves around this step counter at the top of the screen:


Once you've bought the 'Meteor bag' from the shopkeeper these footsteps will become a vital part of the puzzling gameplay! For each step you take you will lose half a step; losing all your steps will result in losing some of your meteor shards!


Each puzzle you will start with 20 shards in the bag, so you want to try and savour as much as you can before you complete the puzzle. After the puzzle you will be able to spend the shards that you are left with!

One of those special shopkeepers is this... dino? He will be able to sell you some quick treasures for meteor shards. You can also donate your shards to the well to the right, throwing in enough will upgrade it and provide you with some nice buffs.

The final special shopkeeper is this leprechaun. For a hefty price he will upgrade the amount of treasures you can find in your puzzles! His prices arent cheap though, so you'll need to save as many meteor shards as you can to buy from him.
