I remember a while ago there was a jam that had the theme multiple genres and it had the theme multiple genres and I had the idea that I could make a game that is a mix between a typing game and a topdown shooter where you have to press a random button on the keyboard to shoot but I missed it so I made the game a little bit and then I stopped because I found a bug. But then this years mix and jam had the same theme but I was doing Game Off so I wasn't able to do it. So Iworked on it for the last month of 2020, I changed it to less of a shooter and this is the first version. I've been working on it during the first week Finally Finish Something 2021 and this is the current version and I would love some feedback and ideas.

Thanks for the feedback!

I normally use arrows to move so I was hoping it would be fine. Sometimes when I was testing the game I had some time to stop moving the player and was able to type normally with both my hands. Also I tested this game for a while so I kinda got used the controls.

I think ill use your suggestion of half the keyboard and at the beginning have the player choose wasd or arrow keys and if they choose wasd they get y-p, h-l, b-m to shoot and if they choose arrows t-q, g-a, b-z. This would make it more like normal typing positions. Also I could add a hard mode where its like what I have now.

I used this to create my character and zombies (I changed it to make it topdown) and this to make the tileset.

I was creating a dash but it didnt really work that well and I thought the speed was fine. I also didnt want the player to just be able to run past the enemies but I think it should be fine. I will increase the speed.

Thanks again for the feedback!

I made an update that includes your ideas. Can you see how you like it now?

I'm going to make a new level this week so that should fix some of the problems. I'll make it easier at the start and make player speed faster again.

The next update is out. There is a new map! I also added spikes and HP pickups.

I know why its laggy, it's probably because I'm spawning in objects to collide for the walls because I didn't know how to make collisions in another way but I've stopped working on this game. I also switched my engine to Godot so I might work on it later on (or a different game with a similar mechanic) but thanks for the help! This was a learning experience that I'll use in future game.

Just tried the updated version on a windows7-laptop with basilisk-browser, I like the "game run"-button added while the yellow-red loading-bar looks bit bright in colours, itch's theme looks okay there & in-game I'd think of maybe some music that's less looped in insteumentals? In my case I'd prefer a quite more calm one btw: when loading our game, it shows just the left half of the mainscreen "options" and "pl(ay)", the rest is just cropped and even the text above is just shown with some inches of the lowest bits of its letters.

I can see some changes at those dark-blue letters above the "option"-button, while mabe this screenshot somehow helps figuring out what causes it? I was also refreshing itch's game-page but the same issue still occurred. btw: left-clicking options or "play" won't have any effect either?

I'm not working on this project anymore.
