Thank you so much for playing and for the kind words! I'm really happy that you liked it ❤️Thank you, I had a lot of fun dressing up as different characters and I was lucky I had a few different wigs I could wear. If I manage to get some more wigs, I'll add a few more characters to the game 😊(Also thank you! I need to get it redyed at somepoint as the colours are fading, but I'm glad they were noticeable in the video).
No worries! Thanks for sharing the link to your game. Here's the link where you can submit your game to the jam. If you have any issues, let me know. And thanks again for taking part in the jam 😊 https://itch.io/jam/405936/add-game/3881569/6347385?token=mrKfbQeiTtbSzvpVo0SJqT...
Hello,
As I've had a few requests to extend the jam, I've currently changed the time so that it will end at 11:59 pm tonight (UK time). If you need more time, let me know how much extra time you need. I will also accept late submissions and will add them to the jam, so please don't worry if your game isn't quite ready yet.
Work is Progresses are also warmly welcomed so it's OK if your game is not finished and you are welcome to update your game after the jam has finished if you would like to.
No problem! I wish you the best of luck with getting your project funded!
Hopefully, they will be able to fix it as I always feel bad when I discover I've missed a comment. And thank you, I look forward to seeing your game later. Yes, I picked International Day of Sign Languages as it seemed like the perfect day for people to play a range of different games that include Sign Languages. Though, I have been considering extending the deadline as I think some people who have been working on games aren't quite ready to submit (including me 😅 Though I might just submit an older project than the one I intended on submitting).
Same :( Most platforms don't even give people the option to search for games in any particular Sign Language unlike written or spoken languages.
No worries, would it be OK for me to share your kickstarter in a few places then? And thank you for playing my game! The Japanese Signs were done by the wonderful Manae Makino she has a YouTube channel and Instagram that I recommend checking out if you want to see more Japanese Sign Language 😊
Yes, I'm hoping to make a full version. I've been trying to get funding for a few years and have shown the demo at a few events in the UK, but so far haven't managed to get enough to make a longer version. I will keep trying though!
Pixelart is not the usual art style I do but have been thinking it might suit the wedding themed game I've wanted to make. I also have made demos of a farming game (that reuses some of Mixcommunication's signs) and have been working on some 3D demos too which I plan to use with motion capture. So maybe someday I will make a pixelart game in that kind of style 😊
Hi Bardon,
Thank you for your question. It can be a bit hard to find licence-free pictures. However, there is a commercial free BSL font from Commanding Hands.
If you're happy to make your own images, you could use online BSL dictionaries and pause the video at a key moment to help with creating your own BSL images. With more time this technique can also be used for creating animations too.

For instance this is a BSL gif for toothpaste I made a while back through the use of dictionaries.
How many words do you need images for?
Hi Umeboshilover,
Sorry for the delay! I keep on not getting notifications for me posts so keep missing them 😭
I am hearing, but am love languages and hate that Sign Languages are rarely included in video games so decided to host this jam to try and encourage more people to add Sign Languages to games. Wow, you know a lot of languages! Are there any languages you are currently learning? I'm currently learning BSL, and have previously learnt a bit of Japanese Sign Language and Korean Sign Language when I lived in those countries but need to learn a lot more. I've been interested in Sign Languages for a long time, I wanted to BSL when I was a younger, but there wasn't an option to learn it at school which I always thought was strange.
Thank you for sharing your game! It looks amazing! I just backed it on kickstarter. Feel free to share your game in both the Signful Game Jam discord and my other discord server for game devs who are learning languages and I'm sure that some people there would be interested.
By the way, if you're interested here's a game I started making a few years ago that includes BSL and Japanese Sign Language 😊

Love love love the art in the game, especially the opening scene. The background is so beautiful and love your character designers throughout the game! Also, thank you so much for sharing your progress in the discord server, I loved seeing how your game developed over the course of the jam. Thank you so much for taking part and for submitting this amazing game! ❤️
Thanks so much for taking part in the jam ❤️ This game is amazing! Love it! The typing mechanic was a lot of fun, and would be a great educational game to help players improve their spelling skills. Tiffany de Hexe is great and loved helping her get her ingredients (though did feel a bit bad for the demon as he didn't fight back). Love the art style and that each character is one colour. The blinding and movement of the NPCs was great too and really brought them to life.
Thank you so much for your submission. Love that you made a game for halloween and that you can use actual sweets if you want to 🍬 Looks like a fun game that children would love to play both at home and at school. Will definitely share the itch page with my teacher friends to see if they would be interested in playing it with their students.
Love the concept of this game and that both players work together to come up with their epic fight sequence and character backstories. Really love that you've provided examples for possible ships to characters to help new players get started quickly if they don't want to create their own. Looks like a really fun game and am looking forward to playing it with a friend 😊 (P.s. Love the art!! It looks amazing!)
This game is amazing!! I really hope you keep working on it. Loved trying to figure out what the words meant and making the potions. I liked interacting with the villagers and that you can see the chat history. Being able to see both the crafting and dictionary at the same time was really useful and helped with figuring out what things meant. I enjoyed finding the axe in the forest which helped me access the desert (with the very cute snakes). Still need to figure out how to make a pickaxe to explore the other areas. Looking forward to playing the game more later 😊
I love Bitsy games! Love the way you designed the water and the palm trees and how unique each character looked. I also really like that we don't play as the smart professor but one of the crew. I ended up getting left behind on the island. Is there more than one endings? If so, will definitely play again to try and achieve freedom for me and the rest of the crew that got left behind.
P.s. Thank you for bring my attention to the Summer of Translations jam. Haven't gone across that one before and will have to keep an eye out for next summer as I would love to take part.

Hello! Great question! For this jam, using real-world Sign Languages is preferred, as the main goal is to promote Sign Language inclusion in games for D/deaf and signing communities.
However, if you would like to create your own Sign Language, you can, but try to also include a real-world Sign Language. For example, this could be done by showing translations into ASL, or featuring a character who is bilingual in both your Sign Language and real-world Sign Languages.
From the 14th of June, I will be hosting the "Not My Lang" game jam, where constructed languages including Sign Languages are welcome. So you'd also be able to submit a game there using a Sign Language you've made.
Thank you again for asking, and best of luck with your project! 😊
