I strongly believe itch.io needs to separate game asset listings into clear categories:
- Game Assets (AI)
- Game Assets (NO-AI)
The current situation is not sustainable. Right now, AI-generated asset packs and hand-crafted asset packs are mixed together in the same marketplace sections. This makes discovery worse for buyers, damages trust, and creates an unfair environment for creators who spend significant time making original assets by hand.
This is not about banning AI. This is about transparency.
Buyers should be able to clearly choose whether they want AI-generated assets or non-AI, hand-made assets. Creators should also be able to compete in a category that properly represents their work. If someone wants to sell AI-generated assets, they can do so in an AI-labeled section. If someone is selling hand-crafted pixel art, UI, sprites, tilesets, or animations, those products should not be buried under large volumes of AI-generated bundles.
The current mixed-category model may increase short-term upload volume, but long-term it is harmful to itch.io.
It reduces buyer confidence. It makes high-quality human-made assets harder to find. It discourages serious creators from publishing on the platform. It creates confusion and frustration for customers. It risks turning the asset marketplace into a low-trust environment.
A simple category separation would help everyone:
Game Assets (AI) Game Assets (NO-AI)
This would not punish AI creators. It would give buyers clear choice, protect human-made asset creators, and improve the long-term health of the marketplace.
If itch.io wants to remain a trusted platform for indie developers, game artists, and asset creators, this issue needs to be addressed clearly. Transparency should not be optional. It should be part of the marketplace structure.

I bought one of this seller’s asset bundles, and in my opinion, the actual files are very poor quality. The products look like pixel art / game-ready tilesets on the page, but the downloaded files appear to be AI-generated images rather than properly made pixel art assets.
What concerns me even more is that this seller appears to be continuing the same pattern: generating AI images, packaging them as game assets, and listing them under categories such as Game Assets > Pixel Art. As of now, this seller’s products can still appear near the top when browsing pixel art game assets, which means more buyers may be misled.
I also could not find any real way to contact the seller. No visible email, no comments, no community discussion, and no clear support/contact method. This means buyers have almost no way to ask questions, report issues, warn others, or resolve problems directly with the seller.
I do not recommend buying from this seller. Please be careful. These assets may look usable on the product page, but based on my experience, they are not proper game-ready pixel art assets.
I suspect I am not the only buyer who has been misled by this kind of listing. itch.io should review sellers who provide no contact method while selling questionable AI-generated asset bundles under pixel art/game asset categories.
What I still do not understand is why itch.io allows sellers like this to continue operating without any visible buyer communication channel.
If a seller can list questionable AI-generated assets under Game Assets > Pixel Art, provide no visible email address, disable comments or discussions, and still appear near the top of the pixel art category, then buyers have almost no protection.
This is not just a quality issue. This is a platform trust issue.
I want to warn other buyers about my experience with this seller:
I purchased one of their asset bundles because the product pages appeared to present the assets as high-quality pixel art or game-ready asset packs.
However, after downloading and checking the files, I found that the actual assets do not appear to be properly constructed pixel art assets. They look more like AI-generated images presented as game assets.
From what I checked, the files do not seem to have the structure or consistency I would expect from usable pixel art game assets, such as clean pixel-level construction, consistent sprite readability, coherent style, practical game-ready organization, or reliable asset usability.
Another serious issue is that the seller provides no visible email address and appears to have disabled or removed practical buyer communication options. I could not find a usable email address, comment section, community discussion, or clear way to contact the seller directly.
This means buyers have almost no way to:
Ask questions before purchasing
Report problems after purchasing
Request clarification from the seller
Warn other buyers on the product page
Discuss whether the assets are actually usable as game-ready pixel art
I believe this is a serious buyer protection issue.
In my opinion, these products are being presented in a way that makes them look like professional pixel art/game asset bundles, but the actual downloaded files may not match that expectation.
I have contacted itch.io Support about this issue. I am posting this because other buyers should be aware of the risk before purchasing from this seller.
I strongly believe itch.io should review this seller’s listings and require clearer disclosure when assets are AI-generated or not actually suitable as proper game-ready pixel art assets.
Title: What should buyers do when an asset has no seller contact option and unclear AI-generated content disclosure?
Hello,
I recently purchased a game asset pack on itch.io and ran into a situation where I could not find a clear way to contact the seller. The comment section was disabled, and I could not find an email address or support channel on the project page.
I also had concerns that the asset may rely heavily on AI-generated images, but this was not clearly communicated in a way that helped me understand the actual usability of the asset before purchase.
I understand that this community board is not a direct support channel and is not meant for resolving individual purchase or refund issues. I have contacted support separately for the refund-related part.
I wanted to ask the community:
What is the best way for buyers to handle situations where a paid asset has no clear seller contact method?
Is there a recommended way to report unclear AI-generated content disclosure?
Should sellers generally provide at least one contact option, such as email, comments, or a support form?
I think clearer seller contact options and AI-content disclosure would help buyers make better decisions and avoid similar issues in the future.
Thank you.
Thanks for the information. I understand that requesting a refund through Itch support is possible. However, since refunds can also be processed directly by the seller and that might be faster, would it be possible for you to handle the refund on your side? I’d really appreciate it, and I plan to purchase the bundle afterward.
Hello,
I’m planning to purchase The Fantasy Tileset Complete Bundle, but I accidentally bought one of the individual tilesets that is already included in the bundle.
Would it be possible to request a refund for the individual tileset? If the refund is approved, I would like to purchase the bundle instead.
Alternatively, if I purchase the bundle first, would it be possible to refund the individual tileset afterward?
Thank you for your help, and I look forward to your reply.
