When I saw the core mechanic was spinning a circle with my mouse, I almost immediately decided I'd probably only play for a few minutes because I thought I would get tired of the motion. Then I hit the millions... and the billions, and trillions, quadrillions, quintillions...
Incredible job. Peak art design. Loved it!
Incredible polish and feel!! One of the most fun entries that hooked me into playing more and more. My first playthrough ended abruptly though as I hit a fire on the border of the map that bumped me out of the map, and then I watched myself take more and more damage as I never re-entered the map, getting more bumped off until my death. Maybe I should have realized that could happen but as a player I was sad to lose in a way I didn't expect to. The slow death made it feel like I was supposed to be able to get back on the board somehow but couldn't.
But I thought I would just share that player experience because it was truthfully the only upsetting moment in a game that I had a BLAST getting stronger in and growing larger and larger. Amazing job :)
Wonderful job!! At first I was lucky enough to find a good number of damage boosting items and thought I was going to get to sit back as I was one-hitting everything - but then the bosses gained a loottt of stats and I realized it would be smarter to round out all of my stats. One note that I have is that I think some items can be found in chests even if you have them already (I found the flippers but I had them already). Now if these aren't random and you purposefully put multiple flippers around, then I understand! But if the chests are generated then you might want to check for what the player has before generating the items to avoid duplicates.
I loved the progression and the music speeding up near the end of the timer! Great idea to make player choices affect how much time passes. I hope you continue to develop this title after the jam!!
I loved seeing the board expand more and more!! I settled into a groove and really enjoyed how the upgrades helped me as I went, but I should probably note that at the beginning, hitting that Question Mark put a LOT of text on the screen - as a player, it was overwhelming! I know it's a jam and you probably already were thinking about things like that. Like maybe a bit more of an extended tutorial, or just something that would help that help screen have less text on it. But honestly that's pretty much the only feedback about this version of the game, because all around you delivered a great jam game! Great job!!
I experienced a very satisfying arc over the course of my playthrough - I don't know why but I was very very not good at capturing enemies inside my loop at the start. I understood the mechanic but couldn't put it into practice. But slowly I got the hang of it and then more and more I found different techniques to get numerous enemies at once - and honestly the fact that a unique mechanic like quill loops provided me with that arc is a great sign of a creative mechanic - you should explore it more!! Great great job with the art as well!!
I think lying to a police officer should be okay (once)
Jk jk. I loved the different branching paths. And the cast of characters was really fun (and impressive for a jam - we also talked about having branching conversations in one of our game ideas, but it's really daunting to plan out consequences of choices like that!) so serious props to you! I hope you continue to develop after the jam!!
Great job!!
I was a bit confused because I didn't expect for cars to run into each other after they had already looped, I thought that if they had done a loop together that then that meant they were safe? But then I realized that I suppose if they finish faster, then they start the loop sooner, meaning they're becoming offset from each other and therein lies the risk. Really interesting the mechanics that fall into place simply by "looping" them, you discover behaviors you didn't predict!
Really fun game and I especially was jamming to the music the whole time :)
Wow!! Very impressive and satisfying to solve. But that difficulty curve hits fast! I'm familiar with and enjoy math crossword puzzles like this, but for a general audience where you might be introducing this to gamers without that experience, the jump to Level 2 with so little pre-placed operations could be a very, very big jump. Of course, I can't speak to whether you want that wider audience appeal or if you know your niche. Maybe you already thought about that, but I wanted to share that perspective. I did end up needing the hints as it went along but I stuck it through and really liked the sound design for dragging the squares. I know that's a small little detail but it was satisfying.
Excellent job!!!
714!!
I really appreciate the design choices in this very relaxing game. For one, you can't deny that bad news is important to engagement in journalism, even though you'd hope that you can just share all the good going on and leave everyone feeling good. But the way this game approaches it is perfect - both bad and good affect your score but in different ways! So I found myself trying to find a good way to include one or two Red stories (to add to my score before the yellow and green) so that the green multipliers which filled up more of my paper had a bigger number to multiply. (If I would have thought of this strategy before I became Balatro obsessed, who knows).
Thank you for making such a calming puzzle game with cute graphics and animal imagery to brighten my mood. Great job all around!!
I loveeee games like this! It took a little bit of adjustment to figure out the timing - does it take longer to loop if you put more buttons, and then shorter time to loop if you put less? That's what it seemed to be for me, which is fine but I think if you continue the game you should put a visual indicator of how fast the actions are looping through (like each button glowing after the next). It was very satisfying to make it through the levels, though, and great job!!
I struggled at times a bit with the collision system and glitching in and out of my own corpse, but designing physics during a game jam is bound to lead to situations like that of course. I was really hoping to see some Sisyphus games in the jam and I was very happy to get to play as the boulder as an excellent twist! Great job :)
I was going to say the game felt a little too "Sisyphean" for me as the player until the words started popping up, which made it much more of a challenge in a way I really enjoyed! Obviously the whole thing is meant to be Sisyphean of course, but it's still good to watch out for how the player feels while they're being asked to do a task that was originally conceived as a punishment lolol
My favorite part was the setting - really creative insertion of our modern world and a nice little commentary ahaha. And the violin cue when you fail was so satisfying to listen to that I wasn't even too mad when I failed! (That is until the text typing development, because then I was failing wayy more often)
Excellent job!!!
Great job!! I felt like I was guessing as far as when to check on the water fountain - and it's not too close to the other tasks - almost made me feel like I had to sacrifice one of the assembly line bits just in case the fountain happened to be leaking. If you don't feel like zooming out so that more of the map is visible, then I think the easy fix would be a UI indicator that tells you no matter where you are that the fountain is out :) same for the telephone and such.
If you continue this game I hope you only lean further into the chaos, the theme was excellent and of course the terrible boss just adding more to your plate was perfect!
I went in with a lot of confidence that my Tetris experience could translate to this idea and WOW no this is a challenging twist!! I'm really impressed with the concept and it took me longer than I thought to finally make loops. I do wish it was a little more clear what constituted a loop but sometimes you can't include every explanation you'd like to during a jam. Great job! :)
Incredible job!! The first playthrough I was feeling like the enemies were a little too easy to defeat ... and then it all came back at me when the real loop began. I almost wonder about what improvements could be made in the pacing/enemy strength in the first run-through if you continue to develop this title. Very impressive work and banging music!! :)
Really great job!! It was satisfying to try to figure out what movements I should plan ahead for to make the loop work. And the art and models are really amazing!
I opened the settings to adjust sensitivity because to me it started too sensitive, and out of curiosity I turned the dial all the way left - which actually froze my position! I couldn't look around at all until I raised my sensitivity back up. So my feedback is to consider not allowing the low end of the slider to reach zero or whatever value caused that. Thankfully not a big issue because I was technically asking for it turning my slider all the way down hahaha
So cute!! I loved the concept - kinda reminded me of the way "Baba is You" started breaking all those menu rules. The puzzles in the Settings was really fun, and I like how all the friends/creatures showed up in the credits loop sequence too. It's a great visual style and honestly the only thing I think it needs is music coming out of the speaker that the guy has! Great job :)
Congrats on your first game jam! I know it all starts with your first jam and just trying to get from start to finish, so I know you won't need me to list what I wish this game had because I'm sure you already have those ideas. The most important to me though is probably instructions/UI for what resources you have, just to complete the player experience as someone who didn't understand what was going on going in. Great job though!! Love that the GMTK logo is on the wheel hahaha
Great job on this idea!! I was worried I might not be able to see myself when the screen filled up but you glow nice and bright which was perfect. Visuals all around were really cool! I was wondering what Screen Enlarger does - did the game zoom out a little after I got it?
Love the looping bullets!!
