Hehe, thanks so much. I joined midstream when my brother messaged, and I panicked thinking that he will not understand what the game is about :D
Thanks for raising the flag

Hi! See if you could play my game: https://itch.io/jam/brainless-game-jam/rate/4782985
I have tried to enter jams before (3 times before), but I never managed to submit earlier. Worse, the first 2 times, I didn't manage to even start, as no idea seemed "perfect", or the scope of it all in my head intimidated me.
I was more determined this time, and also, I had just learned about pico 8. I hadn't coded in 15 years since I left college, and in the previous jams I was always trying to get away with no code tools, but this time I decided to actually hand code, and I think that made a difference. So much of the fun was just for my mind to open back up in those old ways, creating algorithms, writing data structures and just putting a puzzle together. And pico 8 does help in making us not increase the scope much. (And yet I spent 50% of the time just on my ship's look and animations 馃槄)
Another helping factor was that I had always wished to include my brother in the project with me, he has a mind for music which I simply don't.
And of course we had a good time catch up to Odyssey adaptations as part of our "research", and got us prepped for the coming movie so that was its own joy!
So yeah, my story is that of someone who wished to run and cross the finishing line.
Thank you! I was afraid at one point that I have spent way too much time perfecting the boat. Most game devs (quite rightly) say that you should first focus on the core gameplay and not get too bogged down by the assets and animations, but I was having way too much fun with the sprite editor 馃槄. Glad you enjoyed it :)

Hi looking forward to your feedback!
Wow, I don't even know where to begin. The art (as it should be for this) is excellent! The pixel art Bob Ross and Hitler are so perfect. And the idea to use colors is just so fun. This was one of the more joyous games I have played. And Bob Ross vs Hitler is something I never would have thought would make sense anywhere but you have somehow done it!
Looking forward to your feedback :)

Loved the "exploding kittens". Was that an intentional reference?
The cat art was very cute and the animation sprites excellent. I found the choice of the "tadpole" jumping cat to be oddly endearing. And the freaking upward shurikens almost always got me 馃槄 Also, I really appreciate that you added the margin for hump frames, like wile coyote time. Made platforming jumps more fun. Rated you high in gameplay for that :)
Could you play my game too if you find the concept appealing? Thanks
Hi!! Could you try my game please:
A Li'l Odyssey:

That was very fascinating. The music was sweet and eerie at the s time. Went with the vibe of the video too I guess. And top notch artwork! I really think that with the addition of a few mechanics, this could be its own larger releasable game. There were times btw when I clicked on those small angels and nothing happened. What was that about, did I miss something.
Anyway, the mystery of it all was part of the charm. Thanks for sharing :)
Hehe, I had actually thought of an agentic vampire survivor kind of thing too where instead of getting attacks you collect people. But I couldn't figure out how to structure it so I left it. Glad to see that someone did. It was a fun time, although I was confused about what to do with the ores, couldn't pick them up.
:) Thanks so much.
I did have a health indicator on the top of the screen (The icons on top left), but they just appeared and disappeared without any flash or animation so can escape, notice. Also, when the action gets tough in the later part of the game it would be difficult to also keep an eye on the indicator so I should have placed it better I recon. Maybe a bar near the ship. Thanks for the feedback :)
For the voyage, I intentionally avoided one. Partly for the mystery, but mostly because with a 128x128 resolution, any ui element will take up way too much space and the voyage length didn't have a direct purpose for the player
Not my game, but I played this and liked it quite a bit as a puzzle game: https://itch.io/jam/brainless-game-jam/rate/4782949
Lovely art, fun concept. You should add some negative pressure too though. For instance the incoming goblins are fairly inconsequential. Plus, you can't even do anything about them. Would be interesting if we had to figure out whether to invest resources in defense versus mining creating a kind of fun tension. Or repurposing workers for different roles
Hi All. Was just curious about the variety of engines people used (and how many if any wrote their own code) (assuming there are no lovely assemble freaks here :)
I am looking for my fellow pico 8 people too though, not gonna lie. But in general looking for anything made in something other than the ones commonly spoken of.
Hi! I made a little Odyssey: https://itch.io/jam/brainless-game-jam/rate/4782985
I am very hyped for the movie, and when I heard Little Guys, all I was thinking was how little the lives of these men are on the chessboard of the Gods. And so I also chose a "tiny" engine for them, Pico-8. Loved learning the engine and making the game at the same time, been 15 years since I last coded (In undergrad), so that was a fun time reopening my mind.
Hope you are able to try my game (I see you have a long list ahead of you)
